Steve Bennett, a partner at MGI Joyce|Dickson, has worked closely with his client, Studio & You, both during the planning stages and following the opening their business in July 2017. Steve has supported Directors, Alanna Kochel and Lauren Sharman – encouraging them and providing them with valuable insights on the skills and knowledge needed to run a successful business.
Studio & You is an interior design practice offering a broad range of interior design services, including residential, multi-residential developments, and commercial designs covering office, retail and hospitality. Lauren and Alanna have a client-centric, collaborative approach to designing and delivering optimal solutions, with Lauren saying “we work closely with our clients to bring their designs and dream spaces to life. The client is our key focus. The team provides a cohesive service, and works with the client from space exploration right through to construction and onsite defect reviews.”
Studio & You is growing organically, building its client base and attracting repeat clients. Lauren and Alanna work closely with co-director Michael Turco and his architectural company Turco and Associates and have focussed on strengthening relationships with local builders and other architects to highlight the value of an integrated design. In recent months Alanna and Lauren have documented an impressive Capability Statement. Alanna says “this has really helped clients understand the role of an interior designer, what we do and the processes involved.”
Lauren and Alanna acknowledge that one of their biggest challenges is finding the balance between growing and marketing their business, and delivering successful design projects. Alanna said “Steve has helped us manage this challenge, ensuring that we are on track and focussed on the direction we want the business to be heading.” Lauren agrees, commenting “we walk away from each meeting with Steve having built on our skills, knowledge and business confidence.”
Steve notes that some of the biggest challenges of a start-up is developing a vision, identifying key targets and goals, and setting up systems and processes, whilst also working in the business. He has helped Studio & You establish a good foundation for success, guiding them on their business plan and educating them on relevant business and tax issues. Lauren said “one of our biggest milestones was going through the first 12 months of financials with Steve, reviewing our performance and setting new objectives for the future.”
Studio & You recently won two awards for Bathroom Design of the Year and Bathroom of the Year in the 2019 HIA Riverina Housing Awards. The awards help to highlight that the business is on the right track and with Steve’s business management guidance and support, Lauren and Alanna can focus on their passion of designing dream spaces for their clients.
